No matter what stage of the cancer journey you are in, these prayers for breast cancer healing are for you.
In 2012 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. As for many women, it’s been a long journey of biopsies, surgery, and treatments.
Recently, my oncologist told me I could call myself a breast cancer survivor. I found his words a huge encouragement, but at the same time it is a big step.
Even as I write these words, I realize that going forward the risk is low but the fear and the fight is still real. Having had family members and friends who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, most who have survived but some who have not, I know this struggle to be real for them too.
It is most likely you have a relative, friend, or a friend of a friend who has breast cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women, apart from skin cancers. Breast cancer is also the most common cancer worldwide.
We must not forget that breast cancer affects men as well as women. Here, however, because breast cancer is so common in women, I am going to focus on prayers for breast cancer in women.
Step out in faith and use these prayers. As James 5:15 (NIV) says: “And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up.”

A prayer for healing from breast cancer
We worship the God of miracles.
We know from Jesus’ time on earth that the Kingdom of God is about God’s miraculous power breaking into a broken world where the powers of darkness bring sickness, disease, and death.
We also know that sickness and death will not be fully overcome until Jesus returns in power, and we live in a new heaven and new earth. In the meantime, we seek God’s Kingdom and righteousness, and pray for God’s will to be done on earth.
Heavenly Father, You are the God who performs miracles. You are the Great Physician. Your Kingdom is one of life not death, health not sickness, and righteousness not evil. You are Sovereign over all the earth. We know that nothing is done on this earth without Your authority. We ask for Your will to be done on earth. We ask for Your Kingdom to break the chains of breast cancer. Bring Your healing touch to those with this disease. In the name of Your precious Son, Jesus. Amen

A prayer for the woman undergoing breast cancer treatment
There is a range of treatments, alongside surgery, for breast cancer. The most common treatment you are most likely familiar with is chemotherapy, as most women lose their hair. Radiation and hormone therapy is also common.
Often the treatment can be long, tiring, and painful. For myself, I suffered a unpleasant and painful side-effect from radiation treatment that lasted for many months.
Lord God, although the treatment for breast cancer is a life-saver, like with any cancer treatment it can also be long and hard to endure. We are so grateful for these medical treatments, and for those who are trained in them. At the same time, we pray for those who are suffering from side-effects of these treatments. Give them Your comfort and peace. Give the doctors and nurses the wisdom to know when to continue, stop, or change treatment. Give family and friends the compassion needed to help bring relief. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4, James 1:5
A prayer for the women undergoing breast cancer surgery
Breast cancer surgery is a key part of breast cancer treatment. As I came round from the anaesthetic and my surgery, as well as being concerned that all the cancer had been removed, I worried what my body would look like even though I had been told what to expect.
Lord God, I ask that the surgery performed is successful. I pray for all the cancer to be found and removed. May the results come back with clear margins, and that the cancer has not spread to the lymph nodes. Give the surgeon skilled and steady hands. I ask for healing to be swift with no infections. May pain be managed in the days following surgery. Provide the strength and courage needed to get used to the changes the surgery has brought to her body. Provide your healing power for a speedy recovery. In Jesus name, Amen
James 5:16
A prayer for the husband of a breast cancer patient
Breast cancer not only affects the woman, but also those closest to her. In particular, husbands and significant others, have to take on extra responsibilities as well as deal with the trauma associated with a breast cancer diagnosis.
It can be especially hard for a man to see the suffering of the one he loves.
He most likely also has to take on additional tasks at home, care of children, as well as caring for his wife. My husband had to do all these things, which meant taking time off work. For men who lose their wives to breast cancer, they also have to deal with grief.
Lord God, you are the God of love. We pray for the man who sees the suffering of the woman he loves. May he know he can take refuge in the shadow of your wings. Help him to know he is surrounded by Your love during the day and throughout the night. Give him the energy to follow through on all the additional tasks he has to take on as his wife goes through treatment. Give him the strength to be a physical, emotional, and spiritual support for his wife and, if any, children. Replace fear with love as they navigate all that breast cancer can mean. Bring the support he needs from the community around him. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer for the children of a mother with breast cancer
The day I was diagnosed with breast cancer, my husband was 3,000 miles away on a business trip. My extended family lived 3,000 miles away in the opposite direction.
When my three children came home from school, I had to break the news to them on my own. We had to deal with the shock together not knowing at that point what the outcome would be. Pray for children whose mothers are diagnosed with breast cancer.
Heavenly Father, just as parents brought their children to Jesus for Him to bless them, we bring these children of mothers with breast cancer to You. However young or old they may be, we ask You to place Your hands on their lives. Pour out Your blessings on them both today and each day forward. Be their Shepherd. Comfort them in their fears. Guide them along right paths. Bring adults into their lives who can teach them to turn to You for You are a secure fortress and a refuge. In Jesus’ name. Amen

Prayers for breast cancer screenings
Regular mammograms and check-ups are important for not only diagnosing breast cancer, but for on-going good health following treatment.
However, these check-ups can be stressful and cause great fear. Since my initial diagnosis, surgery, and treatment, I have had at least two occasions when the radiologist has requested biopsies. It’s good to be cared for so well, but the experience is also frightening.
Sovereign Lord, first and foremost we pray for places in the world where regular mammograms and check-ups are not available. We ask that You give wisdom to leaders so they make overcoming breast cancer a priority. Lord, it can be difficult for any woman as she goes for her check-up. But, for those who have previously been diagnosed with breast cancer, it can be frightening. Help her to know that when she is afraid, she can put her trust in You—with You on her side, she need not be afraid of what comes. Help her to know she is held safely in Your hands, that You are Sovereign over her life, the results, and the outcome. In Jesus’ name. Amen
Psalm 56:3, Psalm 56:4 TPT
A prayer for the woman who has just been diagnosed with breast cancer
Although breast cancer is usually confirmed with a biopsy, often the breast cancer is suspected before that time either through an examination or mammogram.
For myself, I found the lump.
I remember sitting on my bed, on the phone with my sister-in-law, telling her my concern. She told me to call my doctor immediately, who sent me the next day for a mammogram.
The radiologist shared my concern which then led to the cancer being confirmed through a biopsy. Whichever way breast cancer is found, pray for these women.
Lord God, You are all-knowing. Being diagnosed with breast cancer can be a shock, but we know it is not a surprise to You. Being diagnosed with breast cancer is frightening, but we know You are a God full of compassion and comfort. May Your unfailing love bring reassurance at this time of diagnosis. May Your comfort and compassion wipe away tears. May Your omniscience and omnipotence bring comfort and strength during this time because nothing is outside Your knowledge and control. In Jesus’ name. Amen
Psalm 147:5, 2 Corinthians 1:3, Romans 8:39
If you have been diagnosed with breast cancer, then I pray these words over you:
I pray you will cast all your anxiety on Him, your heavenly Father, because He cares for you. I pray you will be strong and courageous. You need not be afraid or terrified because the Lord your God goes with you. He will never leave you or forsake you. I ask the Lord to bless you and protect you. May He smile on you and be gracious to you. I ask the Lord to show you His favor and give you peace. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen
1 Peter 5:7, Deuteronomy 31:6, Numbers 6:24-26 NLT
Finally, a friend once asked me the best thing to do for a woman diagnosed with breast cancer and going through treatment.
Apart from praying and showing your concern, try to make her life feel as normal as possible.
Find things to do that you can enjoy together, that will take her mind off what she is facing. Have fun, laugh together, and make precious memories.
