Bible verse for June 2
One who loves a pure heart and who speaks with grace
will have the king for a friend. (Proverbs 22:11)
Prayer Reflections for June 2
“Thank you for your patience with me.” My friend wrote that on Facebook last week. And it made me pause and consider our interactions over the past several months.
It didn’t occur to me that I was being patient with her, I just gave her the grace I would hope for if the situation were reversed.
Today’s verse reminds me that when we love others and give them grace (in our words and actions) it makes a difference to those around us.
My friend has been going through a lot of changes, and she did need grace. But don’t we all?
Can you remember a time when you needed grace from those around you (whether you got it or not)?
I can. It was another interaction I had last week…
I was trying to graciously end a business partnership and in my response to letting her go, I called her by the wrong name. She was not so gracious with me. It was probably the last nail in the coffin when really it was an autocorrect error that I didn’t catch.
I would have loved a little grace right then, but instead, we ended our business partnership on a sour note. I acknowledge that it was my fault, and I feel bad, but I can’t change what happened.
Have you ever been there?
You made a mistake and you can’t go back and fix it?
Do you remember what that feels like?
Just like when others respond to us either harshly or with grace, how we respond to others can shape the way their days play out. We can leave them feeling relieved or stressed. Seen or neglected. And that impacts whether they want to have encounters with us in the future.
June 2 Prayer
Father God, please help me to respond to others with grace. Remind me that we all need a little grace now and again. Help me be the type of person that others want to interact with. Make me a beacon of grace pointing others back to You. Amen.
