Bible verse for June 20

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8 ESV)

Prayer Reflections for June 20

I didn’t read my Bible this morning. To be completely candid, I didn’t even look at it until this afternoon. Even then, I only glanced in its direction and acknowledged that I hadn’t made time to read it. I didn’t actually open it up and do any reading.

I’ve had so much going on lately, that I just didn’t make it a priority. I’m not trying to make excuses, sometimes that’s just the way it is. Can you relate to that? Have you ever been there?

Or maybe you still made it to your Bible, but you didn’t enjoy it… you just kind of rushed through it? I’ve been there, too.

It’s days like this that I’m extra thankful that salvation is the gift of God and not something we have to earn. We don’t have to make and keep a “Good Christian” checklist. We are Christians because of God’s grace. Nothing on the list of things we think “Good Christians” should do helps us earn our salvation in any way.

And when we fail to live up to our own expectations, God’s still got us held close, safely in His arms.

I don’t know if you failed to live up to your own “Good Christian” standards today as I did, but whether you’re crushing the Christian life or holding on by a thread, I hope you know it’s all because of God’s grace. Whether it’s in lieu of our failures or despite our best intentions, God’s gift to us is eternal life with Christ.

June 20 Prayer

Father God, thank You for loving me despite my best efforts. Thank You that I don’t have to earn Your favor or love. You saved me when there was nothing worth saving and because of that, I know I don’t have to earn my salvation. Thank You, Lord. For all of it. Amen.
