Praying together at any time of day is a wonderful opportunity to be an example and share the value and habit of prayer with your family. Especially if you have children, this is an opportunity for you to take your concerns to God and allow your children to watch and share in this process.
Doing a morning prayer with family also starts your day off with a focus on God and His ability to protect, keep, and watch over you and all of your concerns.
How Should We Pray as a Family in the Morning?
There are many ways to pray together as a family and no right or wrong way to talk to God. An easy way to make praying as a family a part of your morning routine is to pray at the breakfast table.
Take a few moments to consider the things that are pressing in the day, things that your family members may be anxious about. Think about the answers to prayer that you have seen and remind yourself and your family of those things as well.
Then when you pray, go beyond the prayer of blessing on the food, but ask God for direction for the day and pray specifically for the needs that you have. Praise Him for the answers He has already provided.
Take time to make this a family routine or habit and include your other family members in the prayer time. If your children are too young to form their own prayers, pray for them and use short or partial sentences, and have them repeat the words. Start a family worship tradition to teach your children the importance of spending time with God each day.
Spend Time Praying with Your Family in the Morning
Each morning as you spend time praying with your family, take the time to write down your specific needs or requests and then also note the answers to those requests. As you pray together as a family, you will see that God is answering your prayers. As you write those answers down, you are creating a log or memory of God’s care for your family.
Short Prayers for My Family
Dear Lord, this morning we come to your asking for word of your unfailing love. We have put our trust in your and we pray for your direction and guidance in our lives today. Level the mountains that may present themselves and break down any barriers that might keep us from doing your will.
Thank you for taking great delight in us. We go forward into this day knowing that you are rejoicing over us with singing. Lead us on level ground. Help us to see your presence in our lives today so that we can know that You are with us wherever we go. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Dear Father in Heaven, this morning we come to you and give our day to you. Thank you for always being with us. Help us to walk with You today in all that we say and do. Please forgive us when we have not followed you and help us to reflect You to all we meet. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Bible Verses You Can Use in Your Short Prayers for Your Family
Ps. 143: 8-10 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. Rescue me from my enemies, Lord, for I hide myself in you. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. (NIV)
Is. 45:2-3 I will go before you and will level the mountains; I will break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron. I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.
Zeph. 3:17 The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love, he will no longer rebuke you but will rejoice over you with singing.
There are so many Bible verses to pray for your children. Start a collection of verses that apply to specific situations and use those verses in your morning prayers for your family.
Bible promises can also be used as you claim them for your children or your family. Prayer for your children and family is something you can do in privacy as well as when you are gathered together. Pray circles around your family and then stand back to see how God will answer those prayers.
Morning Prayers of Praise
Starting out the day is the perfect time to set your brain on a path of gratefulness and thanksgiving. Taking time to thank God for his blessings and praise Him for His care for you through the night will direct your brain on God.
To help you keep track of the blessings God is providing for you and your family, start a thanksgiving journal and write down the answers to your prayers. Review these often so you can see the direct interaction God has with you and your family’s needs.
Here are some additional Bible verses to help you not to worry.
Praying for Your Family in the Morning
Whether you are saying a short prayer for your family, saying a morning prayer of protection for your family, or claiming Bible verses as you pray for guidance and direction for your family, it is always the right time to pray. If you start the day with a prayer of praise and thanksgiving with your family, you will find that you have more to be thankful for.
