Bible verse for April 17
It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones. (Psalm 127:2 NLT)
Prayer Reflections for April 17
When I first read Psalm 127:2, I raised my eyebrows. I grew up with the thought of, “You don’t work, you don’t eat.” But what if this verse isn’t doing away with hard work? When I came at it from a different angle, my perspective shifted. Instead of inserting myself and my circumstances into the scripture, thus making it about me, I read it again thinking about how this shows God’s character.
God loves His children (that includes you and me). He tells us over and over not to stress, or worry, or to be anxious about anything. This verse is no different. He is saying don’t worry, He has it under control. Trust Him, this isn’t His first rodeo.
- I remember a time in my early twenties when I’d wake up early and start trying to make as much money as I could. Some days I would spend hours to pocket a few dollars because I was worried I wasn’t doing enough. But even when I didn’t do enough, God always came through. Think of three things that cause you to worry. What three things do you know about God that are bigger than these worries?
- God gives rest to the ones He loves. Do you know that you are loved by God? Whenever you need a reminder, repeat this: “God gives rest to his loved ones.”
April 17 Prayer
Lord, You’ve told me repeatedly throughout the Bible to not worry. Thank you for having all things in Your hands and taking care of me. Let this anxious heart be at peace and stress no more. In Your precious name, Amen.
