Bible Verse for April 21
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)
Prayer Reflection for April 21
You are worthy to approach his throne.
I want to ponder that thought for a second.
No matter who you are. No matter what you’ve done. No matter what you’ve ever thought and never said (because God knows our innermost thoughts- Hebrews 4:12, Psalm 139:23-24, Psalm 139:1-2, Proverbs 21:2, and more) you are worthy to approach His throne.
This is something that may be hard for us to wrap our minds around. I can almost promise you though that if it is hard for us to wrap our minds around, it must have been nearly impossible for the Jewish people during Jesus’ time to comprehend.
In Leviticus, Chapter 9, Moses’ brother Aaron and Aaron’s sons were about to be consecrated to become priests. This was no easy defeat.
First, Moses, Aaron and his sons, and elders waited in the Tabernacle for seven days as instructed. God did not present Himself within those seven days. However, after sitting for seven days there were still sins to atone for, so they had to sacrifice five different types of animals. It was after all of that, on the eighth day, that God appeared to them.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t sit still for five minutes before I unconsciously go for my phone to start scrolling. Yet Moses and Aaron sat in the Tabernacle for seven days, waiting for God to reveal Himself. Plenty of animal sacrifices were required for the atonement of their sins in the process.
But then Jesus.
Jesus came as the ultimate sacrifice. He came as the lamb without blemish that paid the sins for all of us. No more animal sacrifices were needed: Jesus paid it all.
And now we are told in Hebrews 4:16 that not only can we approach the throne of God anytime we want, but we can also do it with confidence. We now go to God boldly, knowing He is willing and ready to hear us and listen to our prayers. When we go to Him, we will find both mercy and grace.
May that be a gift we never take for granted.
April 21 Prayer
Dear Lord, May I never go a day without being thankful that I can approach your throne anytime I want and receive grace and mercy. Amen.
