August 27 Prayer Reflection
Math has never been my strong subject, and if you told me that there was a math lesson in the Bible, I wouldn’t have believed you. Ever.
The book of Jude was written because there were false teachers that had infiltrated into the church and Jude wanted them to stand firm in the faith that was entrusted to them.
In greeting the saints, Jude bestowed 3 things upon the believers.
Mercy. Peace. And love.
Mercy is the state of having pity, being merciful and compassionate.
Peace means to be quiet and at rest.
Love comes from the word agapao and means affection and benevolence.
Those same qualities, mercy, peace and love, that were bestowed upon the disciples in that day, are also bestowed upon us.
But first, let’s do a quick Bible math lesson using Jude 1:2 as a reference.
Addition is one of the easiest math skills that we learn as a child.
2+2=4
3+3=6
4+4+8
5+5=10
After we graduate from learning addition, we soon start grappling with multiplication.
2×2=4
3×3=9
4×4=16
5×5=25
Compared to addition, those multiplied numbers compound very quickly, don’t they?
Jude is telling the saints of God some hard hitting facts about the faith, but there’s a sweet little blessing that is often overlooked in verse 2 about mercy, peace and love.
Here comes that math lesson, Sis…
Mercy, peace and love aren’t just added to us. They are MULTIPLIED to us!
Multiplied!
Multiplied in the Greek is the word plethos, which means to increase and in the English, we get our word plethora from that, which means to be FULL!
Mercy, peace and love aren’t just added to our lives, but they are multiplied! We have an abundant plethora of mercy, peace and love!
As the saints in the day of Jude needed mercy, peace and love to navigate the roads of preserving the truth of the gospel, we have that same blessing upon our lives.
Mercy, peace and love are multiplied upon us!
I pray this Bible multiplication lesson was a blessing to your heart, Sis!
May God’s blessing of mercy, peace and love be multiplied unto you!
August 27 Prayer
Dear Lord, As mercy, peace, and love have been multiplied on us (Jude 1:2) may we share that multiplication today through You. Amen.
