August 9 Prayer Reflection

My job is going through a very busy time right now-the medical office I work at is merging with another clinic. I never thought I would experience this complex process with many moving parts. I felt anxiety, the opposite of peace, rising in the office the day we learned of the official decision as there were many uncertainties. I have been working on handling my anxiety in a healthier way and this has been a real challenge for me. One thing people would say is, “just think, in 6 months, it’ll all be behind you and it’ll be great!” That’s a nice thought, but it’s hard to see myself that far into the future. I had to remind myself, with help from friends reminding me as well, that I could only focus on what was right in front of me that day because that is all I have control over.

Keeping those reminders of peace at all times can be a challenge when it feels like something is taking too long in our eyes. One friend is recovering from knee surgery and she said she’s an “impatient patient”, and we both acknowledged that healing doesn’t happen overnight. Another friend is wanting to move back home, but each potential door keeps shutting. You may be able to relate to these examples or another where the desire to be done with something keeps eluding you. In all of our cases, we would all love to speed ahead past the tough days to get to that peace. Thankfully, God is with us not just in the good times, but all times. What made me choose this verse was that the Lord of peace himself gives the peace. That is the kind of peace I want. What can provide that peace? “The Lord be with all of you.” God is with you every step, every moment, ready to provide that peace. We all just have to open our hearts and receive it.

August 9 Prayer

Dear God,

Thank you for the gift of Your peace. Thank you also for your understanding that I may not enjoy the stressors/anxieties/struggles, but I know that you are with me through it all. Help me feel Your peace in the busyness of life and be more able to be in the present moment. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
