Bible Verses About Parenting Responsibilities

Children Are a Gift From God

One of our first parenting responsibilities is to remember that we don’t own our children. Our children are the Lord’s. He’s blessed us with them and as such places His trust in us to raise them well, according to His principles. It’s our duty to make sure we do our very best to raise them as Godly children.

The following Bible verses remind us of this important truth.

1 – Ezekiel 18:4 KJV: Behold, all souls are mine…

2 – Psalm 24:1 KJV: The earth is the Lord‘s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

3 – Psalm 127:3-5 KJV: Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

Teach Your Children About God

When raising children, we need to make sure that we’re raising them in a Godly way. This can only be achieved by teaching our children about those precious Bible truths and God’s ten commandments.

Here are a few Scriptures about teaching and training our children.

4 – Deuteronomy 11:18-19 KJV: Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.  And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

5 – Deuteronomy 4:9 KJV: Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;

6 – Psalm 78:5-8 KJV: For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments: And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.

7 – Proverbs 22:6 KJV: Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

8 – Isaiah 38:19 KJV: …the father to the children shall make known thy truth.

9 – Isaiah 54:13 KJV: And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.

10 – Matthew 19:14 KJV: But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

11 – Exodus 10:2 KJV: And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son’s son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am the Lord.

Discipline Your Children

Just like God rebukes and corrects us, His children, He wants us to discipline our own children too.

12 – Proverbs 19:18 KJV: Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.

13 – Proverbs 29:17 KJV: Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.

14 – Hebrews 12:7 KJV: If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

Encourage Your Children

As parents we should make sure to encourage our children, to not get angry at them. This will help them to grow into Godly men and women, as a member of the family of God.

15 – Ephesians 6:4 KJV: And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

16 – Colossians 3:21 KJV: Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

17 – Titus 2:4-6 KJV: That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.
