Bible Verses About Summer
God has a lot to say about summer in His word. He has provided us with such wisdom to prepare ahead for the winter months and even to remind us to prepare ahead for a time when it is promised that Jesus will return to our world (it’s all about the Fig tree!). There are Bible verses about celebrating creation, taking time to rest and encouraging Bible verses about shining for the Lord and reflecting His glory.
The seasons are constantly changing and that also brings about a change in our attitudes and in the way we practice our everyday life. The warmer weather lifts our mood and encourages us to relax more. There are longer daylight hours to fill with fun and outdoor activities. In the summer months we tend to relax more and enjoy extra quality time with our family and friends.
Summer is also a time when we slow down and take that much needed vacation with our family. We all need a change and a break from our usual routines. I find that it gives me a fresh perspective on my life and a renewed energy to focus on the months ahead. Do you find yourself like this too?
So with all this in mind I have curated a list of summer Bible verses that you do not want to miss!
I hope you enjoy these Bible verses about summer as you capture a few rays of the sun….or SON over the coming weeks!
25+ Summer Bible Verses – The list that you don’t want to miss!
Celebrating Creation:
1. Genesis 1:3
“Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.” (Genesis 1:3)
In the beginning God spoke creation into being. By the power of God’s word, light appeared. The land, air and sea were formed out of nothing. This is a great verse to ponder during your summer rest. There is so much wonder working power in the word of God.
2. Genesis 8:22
“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.” (Genesis 8:22)
God pronounced this blessing over Noah and his family after the flood that devastated the world. It is a promise for us too. The seasons will pass in their appointed order but one day God will interrupt His appointed order and Jesus will return and then we will share in His glory.
3. Psalm 84:11
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly.” (Psalm 84:11)
Hold on to these wonderful promises! God promises to work out things for good and bless those who walk uprightly. God is for you! He is your sun and shield. He lavishes His grace and glory upon you and He will not withhold any good thing from you.
4. Psalm 93:4
“The Lord on high is mightier
Than the noise of many waters,
Than the mighty waves of the sea.” (Psalm 93:4)
God’s strength and might far exceeds your storms that come your way. When a storm crashes into your life – keep your eyes on God and not on the waves. The power in that tsunami is nothing compared to the power of God.
5. Psalm 113:3
“From the rising of the sun to its going down
The Lord’s name is to be praised.” (Psalm 113:3)
This is a wonderful verse about God’s creation praising Him. It also reminds us to praise God all through the day. It keeps your eyes on Him and gives you a better perspective on your day.
6. Psalm 74:17
“You have set all the borders of the earth;
You have made summer and winter.” (Psalm 74:17)
7. Isaiah 40:8
“The grass withers, the flower fades,
But the word of our God stands forever.” (Isaiah 40:8)
We like the grass and flowers will fade over time but God’s word, His truth will never fade. Feed on His life-giving Word and your soul will be satisfied. Here is another verse with a similar theme.
8. Jeremiah 17:8
“For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,
Which spreads out its roots by the river,
And will not fear when heat comes;
But its leaf will be green,
And will not be anxious in the year of drought,
Nor will cease from yielding fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:8)
You are truly blessed when your hope is in God. You will be like a tree planted by the rivers of living water. When problems arise, put your hope in God for His strength and deliverance.
9. Song Of Songs 2:12
“The flowers appear on the earth;
The time of singing has come,
And the voice of the turtledove
Is heard in our land.” (Song Of Songs 2:12)
This is a fun verse that describes a change in seasons. An interesting fact to note is that the turtledove is a kind of dove that hides away in the wintertime and appears again in the spring/summer seasons. It’s voice is never heard in winter unless it is a fine warm day!
Preparation
There are also so many Bible verses for summer that speak about preparation.
Proverbs is full of great agricultural advice to prepare ahead for winter but also to prepare spiritually for the coming seasons in your life. If you prepare well, you will grow well. Don’t forget about harvest time. You have to water and tend to your harvest to ensure it stays healthy!
I love the ant analogy in Proverbs 30:25. Ants are wise. They may be small and seem weak but they have great wisdom! They reserve food for times ahead. They work hard when the time is suitable, keeping an eye on the future and save for when a season comes that is not favorable for gathering food. Are you wise like an ant? What lesson can you learn from them?
Bible verses for summer preparation:
10. Proverbs 6:8
“Provides her supplies in the summer,
And gathers her food in the harvest.” (Proverbs 6:8)
11. Proverbs 10:5
“He who gathers in summer is a wise son;
He who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame.” (Proverbs 10:5)
12. Proverbs 30:25
“The ants are a people not strong,
Yet they prepare their food in the summer;” (Proverbs 30:25)
The Parable Of The Fig Tree:
The next few Bible verses are about the fig tree. The parable about the fig tree is a call and a reminder for us to be watching and to be ready for Jesus to come back for His church. It is a call to encourage us to witness to those around us that don’t know Him yet.
13. Matthew 24:32
“Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.” (Matthew 24:32)
14. Luke 21:29-36
“Then He spoke to them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. 30 When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near. So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.” (Luke 21:29-36)
The Importance of Watching
15. Luke 21:34-36
“But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.” (Luke 21:34-36)
16. Mark 13:28
“Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.” (Mark 13:28)
Shining Bright For God
To conclude this list of summer Bible verses that you can cling to, I thought it would be encouraging to explore what God says about the sun and about shining bright for Him!
17. Psalm 84:11
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
The Lord will give grace and glory;
No good thing will He withhold
From those who walk uprightly.” (Psalm 84:11)
18. Matthew 5:16
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
19. Ephesians 4:26
“Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath,” (Ephesians 4:26)
20. Isaiah 49:6
“Indeed He says,
‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant
To raise up the tribes of Jacob,
And to restore the preserved ones of Israel;
I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles,
That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’ ” (Isaiah 49:6)
21. Psalm 148:3
“Praise Him, sun and moon;
Praise Him, all you stars of light!” (Psalm 148:3)
22. Psalm 113:3
“From the rising of the sun to its going down
The Lord’s name is to be praised.” (Psalm 113:3)
23. Isaiah 60:20
“Your sun shall no longer go down,
Nor shall your moon withdraw itself;
For the Lord will be your everlasting light,
And the days of your mourning shall be ended.” (Isaiah 60:20)
24. Revelation 7:16
“They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat;” (Revelation 7:16)
25. Isaiah 18:4
“For so the Lord said to me,
“I will take My rest,
And I will look from My dwelling place
Like clear heat in sunshine,
Like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.” (Isaiah 18:4)
I hope that these summer Bibles verses have blessed you as you recharge for the seasons ahead. I have saved the best verse to share with you (in my opinion!) as a closing blessing.
They have become very popular this past season when the world has been turned upside down. They bring comfort and they are easily turned into a prayer.
26. Numbers 6:24-26
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you; “The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)
