Bible verse for June 13

“Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.” Romans 3:24 (NLT).

Prayer Reflections for June 13

I was furious at myself.

My 15-month was not thriving in her daycare, and I had reluctantly agreed to extend my resignation date at work by three months.

That morning’s drop-off was torture listening to her cry and scream as I peeled her clinging – pinching hands away from my arms to hand her over to the child-care provider.

Now in my office, I was focusing on the same two questions.

  1. Why hadn’t I said no to the request to delay my resignation date?
  2. What kind of mother was I?

The same two answers kept repeating in my mind.

  1. I had put work needs ahead of my baby’s needs.
  2. I was a terrible mom.

My office partner walked in and requested I join the rest of our co-workers in our boss’s office for some breakfast treats.

I grunted a decline.

She politely kept asking. I kept declining.

Finally, she insisted I come because our boss had requested that she bring me to her office.

And that was all it took to set me off.

My mouth started spewing everything I was upset about. I couldn’t believe I had given so much to that employer, and now, on my last day, I was still asked for more.

My rude and unprofessional comments went on and on.

I stomped into my boss’s office to find all my coworkers standing by a cake to celebrate my last day. My boss handed me a card, thanked me for my dedication to my role, and thanked me for staying longer than I wanted, acknowledging she knew it was a burden to my heart and family.

Her appreciation snapped me out of my selfish tyrant.

But it was too late.

The damage was done.

My roommate wouldn’t make eye contact.

And never spoke to me again.

It can be hard to forgive others who have hurt us. It can be even harder to forgive ourselves when we make mistakes.

Thankfully, our gracious God forgives us whenever we mess up.

“Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.” Romans 3:24 (NLT).

My friend, none of us are without sin.

We all fall short of the righteousness of God.

But through our faith in Christ, in that He was sent by God the Father to atone for our sins by sitting in our place, shedding His blood on the cross, and taking our punishment, we are the recipients of God’s loving grace.

For that, we can be so thankful.

June 13 Prayer

Gracious God,

We come to You today with gratitude for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Through His sacrifice on the cross, He took the punishment we deserved.

Your graciousness gave us life and freedom from our sins.

We thank you for your unending love – may we never forget the magnitude of it. Help us to walk in faith, secure in the knowledge that we are forgiven and redeemed through Jesus, our Savior. In His name, we pray. Amen.
