Prayer Reflections for June 10
During a challenging season of my life, I found myself in need of God’s grace. I was neck-deep in a litany of spiritual practices that did not align with my faith. I originally thought these things were innocent but came to realize they were not leading me into light as I had thought, but instead were leading me into darkness, disguised as light.
God kept speaking to me in his still, small voice. One day it all came to a head and I instantly felt conviction. I realized how far I had wandered from God and how empty it all felt. Like the prodigal son, in God’s presence, I felt overwhelming love and grace when I came back to my father after running the other way for so long. His grace and mercy flooded me immediately and completely.
As I struggled to sort out what I believed and what was the truth, I found I had to initially allow God to guide me in taking apart all the things I had built on my own before I could allow him to build anew in me a solid faith. He took me back to the foundation and showed me that I had let that foundation become like a house of cards, not built on much of anything at all.
Since that time, I have been undergoing an ongoing rebuilding process in my walk with Christ through the journey of sanctification. God is constantly taking me through the refining fire and melting off the things that are not of him. He is showing me the branches that need pruning in my life.
This refining fire is so beautiful just like the process of creating silver. The dross is burned away and what is left is precious and reflects the image of the one who made it.
This process is never truly finished on this side of eternity. It is a surrender that I will continue to take part in for the rest of my days on Earth.
Perhaps you, too, have allowed yourself to become lukewarm or comfortable in a state of separation from God. Maybe you have found yourself confused and unsure of your faith or what you believe. Know that God has grace for you and will meet you where you are.
As you seek him and surrender to him, he will create in you a new heart and will sanctify you. The results will be more beautiful than you can imagine as the silver begins to reflect the Creator’s face.
June 10 Prayer
Dear Father, thank you for your grace, given freely and without merit. Please help me to daily surrender my will to yours as I walk through the refining fire of sanctification. Please burn away all that is not of you and make me shine with your reflection and that of my Savior. My heart, my life, and my will are yours.
Amen.
