Bible verse for June 25
He has saved us and called us to a holy life-not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace. This grace was given to us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time. (2 Timothy 1:9)
Prayer Reflections for June 25
Who doesn’t love “gifts”?
The word gift is defined as “A thing giving willingly to someone without payment; a present”.
The word automatically stirs up a happy, joyful emotion inside at the idea of receiving something that someone feels we deserve.
Right now, you’re smiling inside at just the thought of the word!
Well, the 2 best gifts in the world have already been given to us thousands of years ago and that’s the promise of salvation and the promise of eternal life.
Neither is based on any deed that we have to do. Neither comes with stipulations. Neither comes with repayment or an invoice. It’s simply based on God’s grace!
The gift comes wrapped, addressed with your name on it, and is full of treasures-the treasures or peace, joy, contentment, freedom, rest, purpose, redemption, restoration, life, abundance, enjoyment, fulfilment, wisdom, counsel, guidance, grace, mercy, forbearance, forgiveness, love, faithfulness and so much more.
We have all received gifts in the past and have not always been deserving, pleased, worthy, or grateful. If we displayed any signs of displeasure, the deliverer of the gift would certainly be disappointed.
But God, despite our sins, despite our mistakes, despite our failures, despite our shortcomings, still feels we are worthy and he smiles at the thought of us living holy lives; purposeful lives with the goal of advancing His Kingdom in the earthly realm. Would you return THIS gift? When you think about all that it comes with, who would return it for a refund or an exchange? What bigger gift could we receive? Humanly and fleshly speaking, we could answer material blessings/wealth but none of that is promised to last, none of it is capable of going to heaven with us and it can all be snatched away in the blink of an eye. Those things are based on circumstances, luck, and talents. THIS gift of eternal life came at an ultimate cost to Jesus but He then received the ultimate gift in return-the gift of sitting on the throne at the right hand of His Father.
Eternal Life and Salvation-The gifts that just keep on giving! When will you open yours? When will you accept yours? When will you “wear” yours? It’s been delivered and there is no waiting; no checking of an anticipated arrival date. For this gift, we simply need to live according to his grace and purpose for us. Thank You Lord!
In Jesus name, Amen.
