Prayer Reflections for June 26
When I was in the hospital with Covid-19, I remember a point when I almost died. Alarms started going off and a whole gaggle of nurses came running. They were screaming at me to breathe, only I had forgotten how.
When I tell that story, most people comment on how afraid I must have been… only I wasn’t. That was probably the most peaceful moment of my entire life. Amidst their panic, I knew only peace. I remember praying, “God, they say I’m going to die, and if that’s the case, I’m ready to come home to you. But if it’s not my time, I’m going to need you to breathe for me, because I’ve forgotten how.”
God did breathe for me that day, but that’s not the point of this devotional. The point is that no matter what we’re facing, we can have the hope of eternal life. We don’t have to live afraid. That day I wasn’t afraid of where my next breath was coming from, because I knew God was in control. I didn’t have to do anything, I would either be in heaven with Jesus or not. God was in control either way.
Sister, I hope you have that same hope today. Hope that no matter what comes your way, God is in control. Hope that no matter what happens, our eternal life is secure in Christ, not because of anything we have done, but because of the grace of God.
June 26 Prayer
Father God, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for Your grace and mercy. When life starts to spiral out of control, remind me that You are on the throne and You can handle it all. In Jesus’ name, I pray; Amen.
