Bible verse for May 24
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9)
Prayer Reflections for May 24
It had been a hard morning at work. I was frustrated. A goal that my team and I worked on was flatly denied. Our efforts were being redirected to another way to solve the problem. The new direction wasn’t bad. But it was another example of how the goalposts were shifted once again.
I grabbed my laptop and phone and headed to a huddle room to regroup and pray through this situation.
Once the door was closed, I sank down into the chair. With tears brimming in my eyes, I prayed, ”God, how can this still be your will for me to be here? The communication, lack of follow-up, and constant change in the direction of the goals are frustrating. How can I keep working with this dysfunction?”
I looked down and picked up my phone. “Maybe there is a better job on LinkedIn that I could find,” I thought.
“No, put the phone down.” I continued talking to myself. “God called you to this job. He is in control and has a reason you are here.”
Isaiah 55:8-9 says, “‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’”
God knows my heart. He knows that I love to be in control. And He knows that when I am frustrated, I find a way to solve my problems myself.
But His ways are not like mine. He knows the plan and why I need to be here. The work is a means to an end. But the people I work with and in other departments need to know Him. I need to keep being a shining light for Him.
The days may be frustrating. And I will do my part to remain positive and keep the team moving forward regardless of the mixed messages we receive. But His ways will keep me here until He tells me to move on.
May 24 Prayer
Thank you, Lord, for your thoughts and how you lead me. Keep my eyes from wandering to other paths that are not for me. Keep my focus on You and the pathways You have planned for me. AMEN.
