Bible verse for May 25

And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. (2 Peter 1:4 NLT)

Prayer Reflections for May 25

Sixteen and half years ago I woke up in the ICU bed to my brother, sis-in-law, and parents surrounding my bed. Despair was in their eyes. I was throwing up the activated charcoal I had received through a tube into my stomach. The previous three days were filled with alcohol, drugs, and no sleep.

This was the end of one life and the beginning of a new life.

I didn’t know it yet, but I was ready to stop living this way.

I’d like to say that from that moment forward I was “ALL IN FOR JESUS”, but I am more of a slow grower. Though I have never again felt the burn of alcohol in my throat, or tasted it on my lips, and I have never again felt the high of a substance. Praise God! I’ve struggled with sin! I have struggled with sin in many ways, and I chalked it up to my humanness each time.

It wasn’t until I started reading his word every day, praying all the time, and surrounding myself with fellow God-fearing women that I was able to begin living in His promises.

Though I sin I am no longer “OK” with it. This is because of the promise God gives us of a NEW LIFE. This is what happens when the Holy Spirit lives inside us. I can’t live in sin and in the spirit-you can’t either! Matthew 6:24 tells us we can only serve 1 master.

We will never reach perfection and sanctification will not be completed until the day Jesus returns. Yet, we must surrender to him each day (Job 11:13), we must desire the word of God (1 Pet 2:2). We must secure scripture in our heart (Psalm 119:11), by applying these calls to action from God we embrace the Goodness and Glory of our Heavenly Father. We live in his promises.

I encourage you to sit with God, and identify where in your life you aren’t choosing to live in the promises of God. Where are you struggling with sin? Get honest with God and lay it down. Find a friend, a fellow believer, that can encourage you to live according to God’s best for your life. Friends, this is not about legalism, it is about embracing the beautiful gift our Father gives us! Living in His promises brings us goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, joy, peace, self-control, kindness, and LOVE (Gal 5:22-23).

May 25 Prayer

God Almighty- I praise you for your Goodness, I praise you for never changing and always being good. I thank you for being Good to me. You are a Good Good Father. I come to you today and I lay my sin at your feet. I no longer want to serve my sin. I want all of you. Lord empty me of me and fill me with you. Help me to run from the corruption of the world and rest in the comfort of your goodness and glory. Help me to share this message with others, strengthen me, comfort me, and direct me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
