Bible verse for May 5
The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him. (Nahum 1:7 KJV)
Prayer Reflections for May 5
Several months ago, I was suffering from severe depression. Years of chronic pain and illness had taken their toll on my body and my mind. This suffering put a significant strain on our finances and relationships and limited my ability to minister to others. To add insult to injury, the devil decided to pounce while I was weak and worn, and hit me with drama, distractions, division, and discouragement as well.
As the burdens piled up, I slid further and further down into the deep dark pit of despair. The stress of it all was just too much for me to bear and I cracked under the pressure. Falling for the devil’s lies, I believed that things would never change and felt helpless and hopeless.
Even though I was reading my Bible and praying consistently over the course of this troubling time, it seemed like God was silent and distant. I felt like a prisoner of war stuck in solitary confinement with no relief in sight.
Completely broken and desperate for help, I cried out to Jesus like the father who sought deliverance for his son “I believe, Lord, help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24). Glory to God on high, the Lord had mercy on me and lifted me out of the darkness into His marvelous light.
He reminded me that God is good, and His word is true. No matter what circumstances come my way, I am His and He is mine, forever and always because I have trusted in Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Standing on those truths strengthened my soul and solidified my resolve to resist the devil and love the Lord and live for His glory all the days of my life.
If you’re going through a hard and heartbreaking time right now, I encourage you to cling to the sweet words of Nahum 1:7- The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble, and he knoweth them that trust in him. Counsel your heart with the truth of the character of your Creator. He is good, through and through. He is your safety and strength amid suffering.
When you cannot see His hand, trust His heart. Run to Him for refuge and find healing for your hurting heart, today.
May 5 Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for the comfort and peace that you provide. Your love and faithfulness lift me up out of the miry clay and set my feet on solid ground. Help me to cling to what I know to be true about you, and never forget your goodness and grace that abounds toward me. Thank you for being my refuge and strength, a stronghold in the day of trouble. May my life bring you the glory you deserve. In the mighty and matchless name of Christ, my King I pray. Amen.
