I never thought I would be at a point where I was taking a breath to say a prayer for hair growth, but there I was.
I had another moment when I was taking a shower, and washed my hair, just to find that too much of it was in my hand. I didn’t realize how much stress it was, causing me, not knowing why it was happening.
Growing up, my hair was incredibly thick. I came from a family of people with fine straight hair, so I had no idea that my hair was actually wavy until I was well into high school. That led to a lot of funny childhood photos growing up. (Good thing that was the 90s so I can’t easily find them.)
It took me a while to learn about my hair and to love it. But I also know that I’m not called to a life that’s completely comfortable. It seems that as soon as I figured out my hair, I started losing it. My thick hair became ¼ of what it was, and it became super thin.
I started losing it in clumps. It was kind of scary, but it happened at the same time that I started gaining weight for no reason.
If you are looking for a prayer for hair growth, please know that all prayers matter. I felt silly praying about it at first, but God wants us to pray about everything. And normally, we pray for hair growth because of the stress of it or an underlying health problem.
Keep in mind: you are not alone. According to the Hair Society, 35 million men and 21 million women suffer from hair loss.
Prayer for hair growth when there is an underlying health problem
God, I’m not sure what is going on with my body. I know that healthy hair is a sign of a healthy body, and my hair is anything but healthy right now. I’ve had so much hair loss that it makes me nervous. Please know, God, that my intention of praying for this isn’t one of vanity, but one of anxiety. Help me learn what is going on in my body that is causing this to happen. Help me turn to you during the process, and I’ve perseverance, as well as patience as I work with doctors to figure out what is going on. Amen.
Prayer for hair growth when I know the cause
After quite a few doctor visits, I had a doctor run blood work. She explained to me that I had a condition called polycystic ovarian syndrome, also known as PCOS. It made a lot of sense, given the other issues I was having, such as the inability to lose weight and extreme fatigue.
I was relieved to know the answer, but the doctor wanted to simply do that, and give me an answer. After that, the problem was solved in her book, so there wasn’t much to talk about what to do with hair loss. I still suffer from it today.
Dear Lord, I know I have a lot of things going on, but you said to pray to you about all things, so here I am. I am so thankful to know the cause of my hair loss, but it doesn’t make it any easier. I want to be fully healthy. If it’s in your will, help me, become healthy and help my hair reflect that. Use all of this to serve your kingdom, Amen.
Prayer for hair growth and self-consciousness
Now, I work from home. I write for a living, and I’m incredibly thankful. I take videos from time to time on social media, and the world would never know they suffer from this because it’s not obvious when I’m facing the camera.
I do get very self-conscious about it, even though I know, in the grand scheme of things, it has little to no importance whatsoever. If someone can’t love me with a bit of hair loss, it’s their problem. But our self-consciousness is an easy way for the enemy to slip in. So when we pray for hair growth, we need to make sure that we are also praying against enemy attacks.
Dear Lord, our lives are short. But I’m human, so I let little things such as my hair loss bother me. Help remove that from me. Remind me that my hair is of this world, but has no bearing on my eternal life. Use this to continue to lead me to You and Your righteous ways, Amen.
Final Thoughts
If you are needing prayer for hair growth, it means that you love coming to the Lord about everything. Remember- we are the only ones that see prayers as “big” or “small.” They are all equal in God’s eyes. Nothing is too big or too small for God!
