Bible verse for February 27

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7)

Prayer Reflections for February 27

Sometimes I will take a verse and use Bible Study Tools to read all of the different translations.

When I did that today, these two jumped out at me the most:

  • Live carefree before God; he is most careful with you. (1 Peter 5:7 MSG)
  • Throw all your anxiety onto him, because he cares about you. (1 Peter 5:7 CEB)

When I think of “casting” my cares on Him, I’ve got to be honest- I’ve always thought of a fishing cast. A lazy day at the lake, quietly throwing the cast out and fishing quietly in His presence, handing Him my worries as I go. It’s a peaceful experience.

But have you ever tried to give your worry to God, just for it to continue to come back and hit you in the face? Not as peaceful.

God knows not worrying and being strong and courageous is hard for us humans- that’s why He had to tell it to Joshua twice (Joshua 1:7-9.)

The Message version though tells us that we can live carefree, without worry, before God, because He is careful. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have the best track record- I’d rather have the one that knows eternity be careful with decisions than me. I can just work on continuing to turn toward God in bold faith and let Him do the rest.

The CEB version says to “throw your anxiety” to Him. That seems a little rough for me, but now thinking about it I love it when my kids come to me all messy and throw their worries at me because that means they’re actually talking to me about it instead of hiding it or bottling it up.

Taking a worry and handing it to God is not an easy feat. It’s a process we can continue to grow in. But what would today look like if you took every fear, and threw it at God?

February 27 Prayer

Dear God, Help me to give you my anxious thoughts, and not take them back. Help me let go of anything in the past that is stopping me from handing you my fear, because I know you turn everything for good, and Your ways are better than mine. Amen.
