Prayer Reflections for March 14
We all have that one thing that we turn to when we are sad.
For me, it’s food. It’s something I’m working through with God. My human nature turns to food to provide comfort when I am sad. I’m slowly training myself to turn to God first, but I’m an imperfect human and a work in progress, so it will take time.
But do you know what happens when I turn to food for comfort? I want more. And then more. And it creates a spiral effect.
Yesterday though, I was feeling a whole bout of sadness. It took all of my energy to seek God, but the first thing I did was open the Bible. Before I started praying and reading, I had no idea how the sadness was going to be solved. I was sad about a specific situation not going the way I planned, so I didn’t know what was going to happen next. But I kept praying and reading.
Did God answer my question and resolve my sadness?
Not yet.
But I was provided peace. A peace that was enough to get me through the day.
God didn’t keep me safe from my situation, but He is keeping me safe in my response to it. He is keeping me safe by aiding me in seeking Him instead of worldly things that could damage me. When I turn to Him (which is what trust is, isn’t it?) He is going to be my Rock, no matter what this situation brings.
March 14 Prayer
Dear God, Trusting in the world will only get me far in this world, which means nothing. Lord, please help me trust you by always putting you first. When I seek you first, before the things of the world, I know you will bring peace, even if the situation doesn’t change immediately. Help me rest in your peace by trusting you, Amen.
