Prayer Reflections for May 27
During a challenging season of my life, I turned away from my faith. I was frustrated with my life circumstances and tried doing things my own way. I thought I could make things happen in my life apart from God and his will.
I still believed in God but I doubted his faithfulness. I wondered if he had forgotten about me, or if my mistakes and missteps were too great to be overcome. I wondered- Did I mess up and miss my chance for the life I wanted? Was my path unredeemable?
I turned to my own ways and my own path rather than God’s. But he kept whispering to me his promises and his truth as I searched for truth, for answers, for peace. He kept reminding me of the way, the truth and the life.
Through a series of supernatural events, I came back to God and to my faith. I have often expressed since that time that God has been faithful to me even when I’ve been faithless. I was moved to tears when I recently read 2 Timothy 2:13 as it expressed this exact sentiment: “If we are faithless, he remains faithful- for he cannot deny himself.” (ESV)
God’s character is the one thing I can count on in my life in spite of all else that may falter. Through every season, every trial and every challenge he always stays the same. He is always good, he is steadfast, he is loving, and he is faithful. He is the only one that brings me peace that passes understanding and the only firm foundation upon which I desire to build my life.
Doing things my own way only carried me for so long. It wasn’t sustainable. It didn’t provide me the depth or richness that his love and faithfulness provide. I am so grateful for his ever-present mercy, grace, and patience with me.
No matter the challenge or trial you face in your life, God is good and he is faithful. Though circumstances may be painful, God is always there walking beside you through the hard seasons, the doubts and the sorrow. He is faithful and will carry you through it as you surrender it to him and lean upon his understanding.
May 27 Prayer
Dear Father, thank you for your steadfast love and faithfulness. Thank you for being the one I can count on no matter what. Thank you for being faithful even when I have been faithless. You are a good, good father. Your love endures forever, and gives me peace in spite of the challenges I face in my day to day life. Please help me to trust you to carry me through whatever I face today. Give me grace for today and peace for the unknown of tomorrow. Amen.
