It is time to make Memorial Day a day of prayer! Use these Memorial Day prayers to help get in the right mindset of where our hearts should be this Memorial Day.
Memorial Day Prayers
A short prayer for Memorial Day
Dear Lord, we remember the fallen soldiers that have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. On this remembrance day, we come to you and ask for healing for families of lost loved ones, protection over other military members, and to help the rest of us make sure that Memorial Day is more than once a year, but a continual act of gratitude. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer for those who lost their lives
O Lord, Today we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. We pray for members of our armed forces and anyone else that lost their lives protecting our country. We know that they are in true peace now, so be with us to make sure we never forget them and never take them for granted. Amen.
Prayer for military men and women that lost friends
Dear Lord, today we remember those military brothers and sisters that also made a great sacrifice. While they were able to come home, they left so much behind. We know you are a God of power, so we ask that you reveal yourself in their broken hearts. On this day of remembrance, help these men and women feel remembered too. Show them that in this dark world, the Holy Spirit still has power and the love of God can triumph over anything. Guide us all to walk in the footsteps of your son and remember those who need you the most. In your name we pray, Amen.
Prayer for family members of those we remember
Dear Heavenly Father, we do not just remember brave men and women today, but we remember the brave families of our troops. You know each one of them, and how to best support them somehow. We leave that in your tender hand. Pour your love into them so they are reminded that they are never alone, even in the darkest of circumstances. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.4
Prayer for peace
God of peace, I want to pray for peace every single day this coming year. I pray for your strong presence to remind us of your sheltering grace and how much you have protected us. Thank you for providing brave members of the military to help in that act. Thank you for providing us with a great country, help us use that to Your power so we can help share the good news until we reach the day of permanent peace. O God, we pray this in your precious name, Amen.
Prayer for the President of the United States of America
Dear God, We pray for our president today. Everyone deserves prayer, including our president, no matter where we are aligned politically. Pour unique blessings over him. Help him find his own way to be the cause of freedom in our country. Help him lead with your power, not through earthly power. Bring together everyone in the body of Christ and everyone in our country. You are a merciful Father, so we ask that You forgive any of his sins and help him to repent and start fresh because Your mercies are new each day.In the name of Christ Jesus, Amen.
John 15:13 Prayer
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13)
John 15:13 Prayer:
Almighty God, we are in awe of those who lay down their own lives so that the people of the United States could be free. We remember the fallen service members that show the type of greater love we all aspire to have. Make sure their lives are not in vain and they help us always think of how we can be a service of others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Final Thoughts
The best way to pray a Memorial Day prayer is to pray from the heart and to remember those who risked it all so we could be free. As you read your Bible, see how God reveals Himself to you, and what Bible verses you could take to turn into prayers. There is nothing better than praying with the Bible!
