Many times in life we need to say a prayer for clarity. We may be standing at the crossroads of a major decision. We may need God’s direction for something difficult we’re facing. Or we may just need to seek God’s guidance for our everyday lives. 

God cares about all the choices we face. From our job situations, to our homes, to our relationships, to our everyday choices, and everything in between. 

God cares about it all. Big and small. 

This is why He gave us the Bible and the gift of prayer. The Bible is full of words of inspiration and words of wisdom to help us in our decision-making. And through prayer, we can seek His guidance.  

We can come boldly before the throne of grace to ask God to help us with anything and everything.  

If we’re in need of counsel, we can go to God with a simple prayer request for clarity on what He wants us to do.  

By seeking His wisdom, we can gain a clear vision of what His will is for us. A clear direction of where He wants us to go. And clear guidance on what He wants us to do.

Father of Light,  

I come to You asking for clarity of mind. Because I know the decisions I make can affect many areas of my life. Open my eyes to see Your will for me. May Your light shine on my situation so I won’t make a wrong decision.

How do I ask God for clarity and direction? 

I like to think I have a good sense and understanding of what would be best in my life. But because I only see things through my own eyes, I often mess things up. 

I don’t know everything . . . so, I need to seek the One who does. 

Instead of trying to go my own way, I need to learn how to follow God every step of the way. 

But how do we do that? How do we pray for clear direction from God?

There really is no perfect formula. Or magic words we have to say.  

It’s all about spending time with God and building a closer relationship with Him.  And as we get to know Him, hearing His voice becomes much easier.

As we sit still before God and spend time in conversation with Him through prayer, He will give us clarity and direction.

Almighty God,

Does prayer bring clarity? 

Prayer does bring clarity but not always in the way we think it does. Or the way we want it to.  

God reveals some things right away. And others over time. 

So, we may have to wait for clarity in our situation until His perfect time is realized. 

And another thing to remember is that sometimes God is trying to reveal something to us . . . but we refuse to see it.

Because we don’t like it.  

We can come to God and ask Him for anything we want. But we also must be willing to accept His response. To surrender everything to Him. And be open to whatever His plan is for our lives.  

We need to invite God into our decision-making process, even knowing He may give us an answer we don’t like. 

He knows way more than we do about what we’re going through. 

So, it would be wise for us to ask Him for guidance and direction. Trusting that no matter what His answer is . . . it is what’s best for us.  

And keep in mind, no matter what God’s call is on our lives, all of God’s people are called to spread the good news of God’s Kingdom.  

So, no matter what kind of clarity God gives us on our situation, we know He will use it for good. To shine His light into this dark world so other lost souls can find their way back home. 

May our daily prayer be to ask God for clarity on how we can be a vessel He can use in every situation. 

For His glory. And the good of others.
