Prayers for Endurance

If you are feeling the need for prayers for endurance, there is most likely one of two major things going on. Either:

  • God has given you clarity for what He has called you to do (not the whole road map of course, but at least the next step) but the enemy has swooped in big-time and you need prayers of endurance
  • Life is just too much right now, and You are going to God to ask Him for any of His strength just to get through the days.

No matter if it is the first thing or the second, or a combination of the two, please know this: God wants to give us endurance. He tells us multiple times in His Word.

When we lean into His endurance and His strength, we can accomplish what His will is for us. And His will is glorious and will always outshine any plan we have for ourselves.

Biblical Prayers for Endurance

There is something immensely powerful about praying God’s word. I have to give credit to my friend Alonda here from Let’s Talk Bible Study, who used the phrase “praying in agreement in the Bible” when we pray God’s word. It is like having God’s help to find the perfect words of truth. I am so thankful for real friends like her who have helped shape my prayer life.

We worship a God of endurance, so nothing will stop God’s will in our lives.

His glorious might will always win, so no matter if we come to Him with a heavy heart or pure joy, we know that endurance produces character, so we can use God’s word to help our hearts find comfort in ways that the world can never give.

So below are powerful Bible verses about endurance, and a prayer for endurance to match each one.

If it is easier for you, feel free to grab the printable prayers for endurance here- it is the same thing as below but you can easily save them and/or print them to refer to whenever you need it.

By your endurance you will gain your lives. (Luke 21:19 NASB)

Luke 21:19 Prayer

Lord, I know that because of Your great endurance, I will live in You. Thank you for the gift of endurance for the hard things. Even if I have the faith of a mustard seed I know that I can trust in Your big-picture plan and that it will always be the right way. Help my endurance be in Your strength instead of my own strength, and help me be a vessel to gain people to know You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A 2 Corinthians 6:3-4 Prayer

giving no reason for taking offense in anything, so that the ministry will not be discredited, but in everything commending ourselves as servants of God, in much endurance, in afflictions, in hardships, in difficulties, (2 Corinthians 6:3-4)

Lord, in difficult circumstances it can be hard to not easily take offense to things. However, I must decrease so You can increase (John 3:30). Help me keep strong in your steadfast love, O Lord, and rely on the ridiculous and overwhelming love of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

A Hebrews 6:12 Prayer

so that you will not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and endurance inherit the promises. (Hebrews 6:12)

Dear God, Remove any sluggishness from me. It is the way of the world; it is not the way I want to follow You. Renew me each morning, and help me imitate those in the cloud of witnesses before me who have used Your faith and Your endurance to inherit Your promises, that are all good. Amen.

A Romans 5:4-6 Prayer

“and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.” (Romans 5:4-6 ESV)

Almighty God, I am praying a bold prayer to provide me with moments for endurance. Let the endurance not drain me, but instead create godly character in me. Let that godly character create wild and rambunctious hope, and let that hope never put me to shame because Your love has been poured into my heart through the Holy Spirit which has been given to me. For when we were still weak You died for us. Let me never forget the chain of endurance, character, hope, and never-ending godly love without any shame. Amen.

A Hebrews 10:36 Prayer

For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. (Hebrews 10:36)

Dear Everlasting Father, Help me with endurance like no other so I can do Your will instead of the will of the world, Amen.

A Hebrews 12:1 Prayer

Therefore, since we also have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let’s rid ourselves of every obstacle and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with endurance the race that is set before us, (Hebrews 12:1)

Dear God, we know that once lust has been conceived, it gives birth to sin, and once sin has been accomplished it brings forth death (James 1:14-16). Instead of creating that trap that so easily entangles us, help us to rid not any obstacle in life, but any obstacle that leads us to sin. Help us replace lust with endurance for the race You have set before us, Amen.

A James 1:2-4 Prayer

Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials,, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. (James 1:2-4)

Dear Lord, We often talk about how these are hard times, difficult times. But how often do we forget that You have infinite wisdom and we must work through the hard times with You leading the way so we can come out with strong faith, stronger than before because of Your lovingcare. Help protect my unwavering faith in You, Amen.

A James 1:12 Prayer

Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. (James 1:12)

Lord God, Your amazing grace is what gives us endurance. Anytime I am under trial, which will increase when I follow Your will due to the enemy, help me remember that is these trials that keep me blessed. Let me run this race of endurance to receive the crown of life that You have promised to those who love You. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

A James 5:11 Prayer

We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful. (James 5:11)

Lord, Help us remember that endurance is a blessing. Let us remember Job and the outcomes we have seen of Your dealings, and that you are full of compassion and are merciful. Amen.

An Acts 20:24 Prayer of Endurance

Lord, I know that because of Your great endurance, I will live in You. Thank you for the gift of endurance for the hard things. Even if I have the faith of a mustard seed I know that I can trust in Your big-picture plan and that it will always be the right way. Help my endurance be in Your strength instead of my own strength, and help me be a vessel to gain people to know You. In Jesus’ name, Amen. (Acts 20:24)

Dear God, sometimes it is hard in these tough times to imagine that there is even a finish line. I know that Jesus sits at the right hand of the throne of God and that You are a good Father, but this life requires such great endurance. However, throughout life’s challenges, please continue to remind me that my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task that You have given me, the task of glorifying the good news of Your grace. In the powerful name of Christ Jesus, Amen.

A Revelation 2:2 Prayer

“I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false.” Revelation 2:2 ESV

Heavenly Father, I know Your works and the patient endurance that comes with it. I know You cannot bear those who are evil. Allow me the discernment You have to test anything that comes into my life that is actually false, and let is be replaced only with Your good. Amen.

*Something to note: in the ESV translation, the words “patient endurance” comes up three times: Revelation 2:2, 2:19, and 3:10. If you want to learn more about patient endurance I would recommend reading Revelation Chapters 2 and 3.

A Philippians 1:6 Prayer

“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work among you will complete it by the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)

Dear Holy Spirit, You are a faithful God. May my trials make me a faithful witness through every rough patch of life. Help me with the confidence that You who began a good work within me will complete it, and give me the endurance to finish it so we can see its perfect result. Amen.

An Ephesians 2:4-5 Prayer

But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our wrongdoings, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),” (Ephesians 2:4-5)

O God, rich in mercy because of Your great love, even when we were dead in our wrongdoings You made us alive in Christ. Help us remember we have been saved by grace, and that will give us endurance. Amen.

An Ephesians 3:16-17 Prayer

“that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner self, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love,” Ephesians 3:16-17

You, O Lord, are my source of comfort, my tower of strength. You are the giver of patience in hurtful times and painful times. You know my inner being as well as all the eternal things, and yet still promise eternal glory to a sinner like me. Your loving care is radical. May I remember that in rough times? You are a gracious God. I praise Your holy name, Lord Jesus. May I always do the will of your Father as You did, Amen.

Conclusion

I am overwhelmed by the undeserved love of the Lord. My biggest prayer is that in difficult situations, we can use the endurance of God’s faithfulness to see it through and through God’s way instead of through the values of our culture or worldly things. For the tribulations of this life are not worth comparing to the glory that is going to be revealed to us (Romans 8:18).

Use these powerful prayers for endurance, all based on scripture, the words of eternal life. We serve an almighty Heavenly king.

Remember that the troubles of this world are momentary troubles, and the best prayers are the prayers of the heart. Don’t be afraid to give full trust to God as you pray, knowing that every good thing is from above (James 1:17) so you can pray in times of need knowing that God’s grace will see you through as a child of God.
