When you want effective prayer points for spiritual growth, make sure you consider this…
I didn’t know what to do. I knew I needed spiritual growth, but I was in a church that was not pushing growth. I had no idea where to start.
I did know this though:
- I was constantly falling asleep praying.
- I was finding myself praying the same types of prayers on repeat.
- And I was comfortable in my rhythms, rhythms that God never called me to.
I knew that God was calling me into a deeper relationship but I did not know where to start.
Prayer Points to Cover For Spiritual Growth
But first, what is a prayer point?
A prayer point is a specific topic or issue that you focus on during prayer.
Prayer points for spiritual growth and other specific things help guide your prayers, making them more intentional and focused. This is super great for someone like me that tends to fall out of focus easily.
For example, you might have prayer points for gratitude, guidance, healing, or strength. They help you stay organized and ensure that you cover all the important areas in your prayers.
Prayer points are actually the whole basis that started me on the right track to spiritual growth.
Think about it this way:
We know that prayer is a personal and intimate relationship with God. Therefore, reading off the same type of prayers daily is most likely not going to build our relationship.
However, sometimes we simply do not know where to begin when it comes to praying. Because of this, it can be great to sometimes start with prayer points, or little mini direction markers on how best to pray. We can start with these, and then let the Holy Spirit take it from there when it comes to how we want to pray.
Here are some specific prayer points you can pray when you are looking on connecting with God on a deeper level.

#1 Prayer for a Deeper Relationship with God
A deeper relationship with God is the foundation of spiritual growth. There is nowhere in Scripture that calls us to be comfortable. If we find that everything we are doing when it comes to faith is comfortable, we probably want to pray for a deeper relationship with God. It is the same thing when it comes to prayer. If we feel that God agrees with us on everything, we may not be digging deep enough.
Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Let’s pray for a heart that seeks God earnestly and consistently. A heart that constantly wants to go deeper with God.
Prayer Point: Dear Lord, give me a heart that longs for you. Help me seek you with all my heart, soul, and mind.
I remember when I started dedicating specific time each day to seek God through the Word of God, my entire perspective changed. The more I sought Him, the more I found Him, and my life was transformed. As children of God, we should continually strive for a closer relationship with our Heavenly Father.
#2 Prayer for Wisdom and Discernment
We need God’s wisdom to navigate the complexities of life. James 1:5 encourages us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
Prayer Point: Dear Lord, grant me your spirit of wisdom and discernment in every decision I make.
In my own life, there were moments when I had no idea what to do. Praying for wisdom brought clarity and peace, guiding me through difficult choices. The knowledge of God and His will is essential for our Christian walk and spiritual maturity.
#3 Prayer for Strength and Endurance
Life’s challenges can be overwhelming, but God provides strength and endurance. Isaiah 40:31 promises, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Prayer Point: O Lord, renew my strength. Help me persevere through trials with your strength.
During tough times, I’ve experienced God’s strength carrying me through. It’s in our weakness that His strength is made perfect. The power of God is evident in our lives when we rely on Him.
#4 Prayer for Love and Compassion
Love is the hallmark of the Christian faith. 1 John 4:7-8 reminds us, “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.”
Prayer Point: Dear God, fill my heart with your love and compassion for others.
Showing love and compassion isn’t always easy, but through prayer, God can soften our hearts and help us love like He does. The love of God compels us to reach out and touch lives, fulfilling the Great Commission.
#5 Prayer for Faith and Trust
Faith is crucial in our walk with God. Hebrews 11:1 tells us, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
Prayer Point: Father Lord, increase my faith and help me trust in your plans.
There have been times when trusting God seemed impossible, but through prayer, my faith grew, and I learned to rely on His promises. Trusting in the name of Jesus brings peace and assurance in all circumstances.
#6 Prayer for Humility and Repentance
Humility and repentance are essential for spiritual growth. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
Prayer Point: Lord God, give me a humble heart and a spirit of repentance.
Humbling myself before God and seeking His forgiveness has brought immense growth and healing in my spiritual journey. A humble spirit is necessary to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord.
#7 Prayer for Guidance and Direction
We need God’s guidance in every step we take. Proverbs 3:5-6 advises, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Prayer Point: Almighty God, guide me in every decision. Show me the right path you have for me.
Seeking God’s direction has led me to places and opportunities I never imagined. His guidance is always perfect. The leading of the Holy Spirit helps us navigate the complexities of life today.
#8 Prayer for Joy and Peace
Joy and peace are fruits of a life rooted in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 promises, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Prayer Point: Dear Lord, fill me with your joy and peace.
Even in difficult circumstances, God’s joy and peace can fill our hearts and sustain us. The fruit of the Spirit, including love, joy, and peace, are evident in the life of a believer who trusts in the Savior Jesus Christ.
