Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. (Psalm 37:3 NIV, bold added for emphasis relating to the devotional below)
Prayer Reflections for March 25
One time when I was really struggling with focus while reading the Bible, a friend made a great suggestion. She said when reading the Bible, highlight or underline every verb of what I am reading.
This little helpful tidbit still helps me when my focus is off. God has never improved my focus, He instead has provided me wisdom (either through Him directly or through my friends) with how to read the Bible even when my focus isn’t great.
So when it came to Psalm 37 of our reading plan, I was having one of those days. My focus was completely off- I read the Psalm (which is not a short Psalm) three times in a row, and it was as if I had not retained anything.
So I went to underline the verbs. And it just so happened that this verse stuck out to me the most.
Read Psalm 37:3 three times in a row- out loud if you struggle with focus as I do. Trust in the Lord and do good, dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Before this, it instructs us not to fret for those who do evil because like the grass they will soon wither (Psalm 37:1-2.)
But when we trust, it leads to doing. When we trust God, we can do acts of faith. Trust is the measurement of how far our faith will travel.
When we dwell with God, it leads to not just safety, but the enjoyment of safety. We are not only safe with God, but we can enjoy it.
So today I encourage us all, no matter how many things are thrown our way, to enjoy being in God’s presence- an almighty safe place.
Prayer for March 25
Almighty God, I trust in you. Help lead my trust to do good in Your name. Help me dwell in Your presence and enjoy the safe pastures of your unfailing love, Amen.
