Prayers for financial miracles that work?

These are either things we pray about daily, or we avoid praying about at all costs.

From most people I have spoken with, it is one way or the other, with no in between.

And that’s because money is hard to talk about. For some of us, we may be uncomfortable speaking about it with others and can only speak about it with God. For me, I couldn’t even come up with prayers for miracles for money because I was afraid to ask God.

Sometimes I forget that God wants to bless us. We just have to do our part to make sure it is for His will, not ours.

Prayers For Money Miracles

When I spent some time walking away from Christianity, a lot of it was because of what I found to be hypocrisy within the churches I had attended and the people I spoke with that carried the “Christian” identity.

I would hear churches talk about positive prayers for financial blessings, and if you give to the church, then you would get all your money back (and more)! But there always seemed to be a catch, and a lot of the “catch” was far from Biblical.

The hardest ones for me were the prayers for immediate financial blessings. It seemed like there was always a catch to it.

Many churches clung onto the idea that if I gave x amount to the church, I would receive x amount in blessings from God. It sounded too good to be true. It also felt like I was using God to get the blessings I wanted, and is the furthest idea for the reasons to tithe.

It took me reading the Bible on my own and learning what the Bible says about money to be comfortable with prayers for financial blessings. And man, were my results amazing! (More on that later in this).

What does God Say About Financial Blessings?

God doesn’t focus on financial blessings, He focuses on His blessings. And His blessings are far more valuable than any financial miracle that can be provided because God’s blessings are eternal.

“If they obey and serve him, they will spend the rest of their days in prosperity and their years in contentment.” (Job 36:11)

God may not help us win the lottery, but if we focus on Him first before finances, He will make sure we always get exactly what we need.

[socialpug_tweet tweet=”God doesn’t focus on financial blessings, He focuses on His blessings. And His blessings are far more valuable than any financial miracle that can be provided because God’s blessings are eternal.” display_tweet=”God doesn’t focus on financial blessings, He focuses on His blessings. And His blessings are far more valuable than any financial miracle that can be provided because God’s blessings are eternal.” style=”2″]

That was the case for our family. I once wrote about finding hope in the midst of financial distress and how giving to our church changed us, but not in any of the ways we expected. In that, I say this:

God loves me too much to give me only what my imagination can hold. He has better plans than that.

Now, whenever I pray a prayer for immediate financial help, I try to always make sure it is about sharing God and God’s glory, and His plans.

Sometimes we take verses out of the Bible without context and make assumptions on God’s blessing for us. For example, a common verse that is used about receiving financial blessings is this:

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38)

Chapter 6 of Luke is all about loving your enemies and how to treat people, and the verse above is about not judging others. The idea was not to judge unless you want to be judged, forgive (and you will be forgiven), and give to be given to. It never talks about if it means in this earthly life or this eternal life.

God’s Warning About Finances

God has a lot to say about people that depend on money instead of Him. The Bible talks a lot about money, and a lot of those verses are focused on honoring God instead of money.

He wants to warn people about the curse that can come with a prayer for a financial miracle.

“If riches increase, do not set your heart on them.” (Proverbs 62:10)

That is HARD. Can you imagine praying a prayer for financial blessings, receiving it, then not focusing on it? That small proverb carries a huge task. Most of us want a prayer for immediate financial help, not a prayer to tuck away and forget about!

For us, that meant when God answered our prayers for miracles for money, we had to focus on how to honor God with it. We wanted to jump right into buying this, or catching up on x bill, and it took a lot of effort (and a lot of mistakes) to always honor God in our financial decisions following His blessing.

“He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous shall flourish as the green leaf.” (Proverbs 11:28)

Anything we earn can be gone in an instant. My dream job of being a full-time writer was taken from me moments after my last day of my 9-5 job. As we unfortunately know now, a sickness can take over the whole world, wiping out a large part of the labor force. We do not know what tomorrow brings.

But that doesn’t mean we worry about tomorrow. That means we simply can’t trust in the earthly riches we have now.

Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.” (Ecclesiastes 5:10)

This is the path my husband and I took for many years. We started our lives together when he was volunteering with Americorps, so we basically started with less than nothing. We were trying to coordinate our lives together financially for the first time, but we never had enough money. It led to years of focusing on money.

And when I focused on money, it meant I loved money. Even though it was a need, not a want, my focus on it was the issue. My focus shifted from always going to God in prayer, and it shifted from putting my family first.

Instead, I was an overworked, stressed out mom that was simply pulled in too many different ways. I was relying on logic, not God. It’s been eight years now, and I am slowly still getting out of the mess due to my focus being in the wrong place. Every time we made extra money, I could only focus on how it still wasn’t enough instead of God’s miracles.

“Do not love the world nor the things in the world If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.” (1 John 2:15-17)

Does Tithing Bring Financial Blessings?

I’ve been at points where I have had to decide whether to tithe or buy groceries. God has made sure that I have never gone without food.

I never got thousands of dollars or the cure to diseases from tithing, but I did get God’s blessings.

If you looked into my financial life with a naked eye, you most likely wouldn’t see any blessings there. It is how God worked through me that made all the difference.

I could give all the reasons of why we should tithe, but that is not what this is about.

If you do tithe, do not do it for fear of what God will do if you don’t. That isn’t what this is about. God doesn’t need your money. Yes, we can honor God through tithing, but it is a lot more than that.

“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7)

It is amazing how your heart, and your whole life, changes when you start giving cheerfully. Especially when the rest of the world tells you not too because your finances are too tight.

One of my husband’s favorite Bible verses is from Proverbs 3:27:

“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.” (Proverbs 3:27).

God has the power to get anyone through any financial crisis. But it is up to us on how we are going to help and love the world during that time.

Is It Okay to Have Prayers for Financial Miracles?

Simply put, the answer is yes- if it is focused on God’s Will. My whole financial situation changed when we started putting God’s plan first in our finances instead of our own.

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” (Matthew 6:24)

“but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.” (Mark 4:19)

God loves bold prayers. That includes prayers for financial blessings. We just always need to check that our heart is in the right place.

Is there a Prayer for Immediate Financial Help?

There is always a prayer for immediate financial blessing, and I will give examples below. However, the best prayer for immediate financial help is one that comes from the heart.

God knows what is on your heart, even if you don’t have the words to pray.

When it comes to financial distress, sometimes the enemy wants to use a time like this to distract us from God. Financial distress can convince us that we are working too much to pray, too stressed out to pray, or that God simply isn’t answering our prayers.

For a prayer for financial blessings, half of the battle is simply showing up. And showing up consistently. Coming to God, laying what is on your heart, and seeing God answer in His miraculous ways. Seeing God do His work can be missed when we don’t show up for the battle.

One of our Pray With Confidence contributors wrote an article about a unique idea for a prayer journal and how to always see the ways God works in our lives. Sometimes, God blesses us so much, but we are so focused on the “what’s next” that we forget, because we are human. Seeing the prayers written down (and the answers to those prayers) is a great way to start praying with confidence.

Don’t know how to create a prayer journal? Here is a great introduction about creating the best prayer journal for you!

It is great to have examples to pray for financial miracles, but God will always honor your prayers. Nothing has to be “perfect” for God, He loves us the way we are and the way we pray.

Love this article, Jessie. When I left medicine to be a stay-at-home-mom for a few years, I found how skewed my view of money was. God transformed me before He transformed my finances. I love this great reminder. Thanks

One of the biggest things I've seen in my life has been everything you have said here. When God took away the money, THAT is when we got to see who He is. And, it's pretty much the basis for my blog. For moms and dads to step out in that faith, lift up there hands to God and hand over their finances...then, hold tight for the ride of their lives as they get to find out who God really is.

And, I love what you say about tithing...God loves a cheerful giver. If you're tithing for the wrong reasons or cause you have to, then God can see your heart and you won't get to reap the benefits. I always check my heart before tithing. If I ever feel like it's a got to and not a get to, then I don't tithe right then.

My hubby tithes every payday and we have literally seen God take over our finances. He has blessed us in ways we could not imagine. God has also had to work with my attitude about how much money my hubby tithes etc because I will do this big gulp in times when money is tight. God doesn't want me to cancel our blessings with my distrust, He wants me to be a cheerful giver lol. Beautiful post Jessie! ❤
