Looking For a Prayer of Adoration For Our Father? We have ten listed below. But first…

Have you ever wondered if God wants you to pray to Him about Him?

I know the question sounds weird right?

Let me rephrase it- how much do you adore God and how often do you tell Him?

(AKA- A Prayer of Adoration!)

I used to struggle with this myself, praying for myself and others but not really taking the time out and telling Christ who He is to me.

It’s not that I didn’t love Him or adore Him but I can honestly say I didn’t write, “tell God how much you love Him” on my prayer requests list. I was just praying for myself and others like I thought I was supposed to. But I soon learned that before I even started to pray, to give God adoration and glorify His name.

When we read in Revelation, we are reminded that praise and adoration are perpetual!

“Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty— the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”

Whenever the living beings give glory and honor and thanks to the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever), the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever). And they lay their crowns before the throne and say, “You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.””
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭4:8-11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

G.R.O.W. Prayer Method: How to Use it As A Prayer of Adoration

The Lord is most definitely used to being praised and adored so I wanted to ensure that I never went into prayer without giving Him praise, so I started using the G.R.O.W Method:

G-Glorify God

Start with worship, worshipping ushers in the presence of the Lord and opens your heart to receive Him.
Pray: “I love you Lord, you are worthy to be receive all the glory, all the honor and all the praise and I praise your Holy name. For you are God alone and I worship you.”

“Then David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly: “O Lord, the God of our ancestor Israel, may you be praised forever and ever! Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things.”
‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭29:10-11‬

R-Repent

Repent for your sins daily, ask God for forgiveness so that you will have a pure heart.

Pray: “Please forgive me for my sins Father, create in me a clean heart and renew a right and steadfast spirit within me.”

“Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me— now let me rejoice. Don’t keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.”
‭‭Psalm ‭51:7-10‬

O- Operate in the Word

Pray scripture, put God in remembrance of what His word says.

Pray: “Lord you said in your word to ask and I will receive. So I am asking that your perfect will be done in my life concerning….”

“But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭4:4‬‬‬

W-Willingness to Surrender

Say YES to His will. Let Him know that you are willing to surrender and walk in the path that He has laid before you.

Pray: Lord I surrender my all to you, I am willing to do your will, help me to understand what a surrendered life looks like so that I may live a life that is pleasing to you.

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
‭‭James‬ ‭4:7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

who is god

Who is God in your life?

He is everything to me!

“And he said: “The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.”
‭‭II Samuel‬ ‭22:2-4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

So as I think back to all the times in my life that I needed love, peace, comfort, contentment or joy, the times that I didn’t know who to rely on. The times when I needed my Savior He was there for me.

I don’t understand how I could ever forget to glorify His name because He has been so good to me. He has released me from my bondage and set me free, he has purified me, cleansed me and made me whole.

He has loved me when I felt unloved, given me peace in the storm, healed me from my sickness and provided for me time and time again. He has opened doors that no man can shut and closed doors that can never be opened. He is water when I am thirsty, truth in the midst of lies, an extinguisher in the fire.

He fights my battles, carries my burdens and covers me. He is absolutely EVERYTHING to me! That is why I praise His name.

Other Adoration Prayers, Using Bible Verses

One of the best ways to pray to God is by using His own words from His Holy book.

Here are some Bible verses, and each one can be a prayer of adoration: All are from NIV unless otherwise stated.

  • Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago. (Isaiah 25:1)
  • Let everything that has breath praise the Lord, Praise the Lord. (Psalm 150:6)
  • The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. (Psalm 28:7)
  • Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. (Psalm 63:4)
  • Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. (Psalm 145:3)
  • Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. (Colossians 3:16)
  • I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. (Psalm 145:1)
  • In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? (Psalm 56:4)
  • I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws. (Psalm 119:7)

Frequently Asked Questions With Adoration Prayers

When it comes to a prayer of adoration, you may have some questions. We want to help you answer as many as possible. If there is something we have not answered, let us know below!

What is a prayer of adoration?

A prayer of adoration is a type of prayer that addresses who God is and our love for Him because of who He is. This would differ from a Thanksgiving prayer which addresses our love for God specifically because of things He has done.

How do you pray during adoration?

This is a time to take the focus away from us and instead focus on God and our adoration for Him. Some ways to pray during adoration include: 1. Being still and trying to listen to God first. 2. Think and reflect on what the Bible says about who God is. 3. Contemplate on why we worship God. 4. Pray a few prayers that do not ask for anything from Him, but simply praise Him for who He is and how great He is!

How do we adore God?

A great way to adore God is to remove expectation for a couple of minutes of what He can do for us, and instead think of what He has created and how powerful He is.

Final Thoughts

Sometimes we get stuck in a funk of praying to God and seeing prayers not answered. We have to be careful not to turn God into a genie that is there simply for us and to answer our prayers. The fact is, He is an almighty and powerful God that created us out of love and wanting us in His lives. A prayer of adoration means taking time to praise God simply for how wonderful and majestic He is!
