Bible verse for February 25
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NIV)
Reflection for February 25
I find myself often praying away trouble. And it’s not that God won’t answer those prayers, sometimes. But re-reading John 16:33 makes me realize how often I am praying away something that Jesus promised. He didn’t sugarcoat it: there is going to be trouble in this world.
The glory lies in the fact that Jesus has overcome the trouble. It is like watching a scary movie when you’ve already Googled the ending. It doesn’t necessarily make the movie less scary, but you can watch it with much less discomfort knowing what is going to happen.
Likewise, this world is going to make us uncomfortable. But we can rest in knowing that Jesus already came and saved us.
February 25 Prayer
Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for discomfort. Even though that is a hard prayer to pray, I thank you for giving me reminders that you have already overcome the world. Trouble in the world doesn’t mean unanswered prayers, it is fulfilling your promise that you will save your people, Amen.
