We know God is great, but is God greater than our highs and lows? Does anything we go through, good or bad, affect Him? Or is it merely us that go through the rollercoaster of life and let it swing our emotions…
True, when life is tough and we are going through difficult times, it’s difficult to lift our eyes up to God. When we are hammered in at all sides, our hearts get weighed down. In those difficult times, it is challenging to remember that God is higher than that.
What does God is greater than our highs and lows mean?
God is greater than our highs and lows is more of a concept than an exact phrase of the Bible.
It means, when life is going well and we’re on top of the world, God’s love and power are still bigger. And when we face tough times, challenges, or the downs of life, God’s presence remains unshaken. He’s not affected by our circumstances or our ever-changing emotions.
In every situation, we can rely on God’s power and greatness to be there, providing us with strength, comfort, and hope. So, no matter what we’re going through, we can have confidence that God is always there, looking out for us and helping us through it all.
Is God greater than our highs and lows a Bible verse?
The exact phrase “God is greater than our highs and lows” is not in the Bible. However, various passages reflect this concept. The Bible teaches us that God’s nature is unchanging. His love and faithfulness remain constant regardless of our circumstances.
Whether we are on the top of the mountain or deep down in the valley of the shadow of death, whether we are on the path of success or are going through difficult times, God is our Heavenly Father, and as such He stays close by us. His love for us remains forever! Our tough times don’t change a bit to that.
So, even though God is greater than our highs and lows isn’t a literal Bible verse, throughout God’s Word, we find God’s greatness and God’s power.
Also, God promised His mercies to start afresh each morning and never cease (Lamentations 3:22-23). What about when bad things are happening to us?
Does that change the testimony of God? No! Nothing we go through changes Him. He is and will always be faithful. He is greater than anything we go through.
The Bible offers assurance that God’s love and presence aren’t determined by our circumstances but remain steadfast. Here are a couple of Bible verses that convey the idea that God is greater than our highs and lows:
Lamentations 3:22-23
The Bible verse that tells us that God’s mercies never end should be seen in its context. The prophet Jeremiah was in distress when He wrote the passages. He was facing difficult times, not just for Himself but for the entire nation.
We can do the same. Amid our distress (emotional, physical, mental), we can choose to trust God and declare His faithfulness.
We can place Him above our problems and then give everything to Him. He will take care of it! We can trust God to give us a new beginning.
We can announce the testimonies of God in the best part of our lives and when bad things are happening.
Psalms 113:4
“For the Lord is high above the nations; his glory is higher than the heavens.” (NLT)
This Bible verse clarifies that God is greater than our highs and lows. He is high above anything here on earth, even higher than anything else. We can remind ourselves of this truth when we are at rock bottom and then trust God’s abundant provision for whatever situation we are in.
What is Romans 8 verse 38?
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.” (NLT)
Nothing, literally nothing (!), can separate us from God’s love. Whether great things are happening in your life or bad things, His love for you remains. His love is steadfast, never changing! This makes Him greater than your highs and lows. We can use this Bible verse to remind ourselves not to worry, as God doesn’t want us to worry!
What is Romans 8 verse 39?
“No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (NLT)
No matter what you are going through, God is on your side. Whether you feel it or not. Whatever is causing your lows (spiritual or earthly), it isn’t higher than God. Through Christ Jesus, you are loved. His love for you remains and holds you—it carries you through your difficult times and it carries you through your high times. His love is constant.
8 Prayers to remind yourself that God is greater than your highs and lows
When you are feeling down, it is difficult to pray. I have been there. All I could say was. “Help!” In those situations, it is good to have help in prayer. You can trust Christ Jesus is praying for you in Heaven, and the Holy Spirit also speaks to God what you can’t utter for yourself.
You can also make use of sample prayers and pray these silently in your heart or aloud in your room or car. Here are eight sample prayers to remind yourself that God is higher than your highs and lows and that nothing can change His love and purpose for you.
1. Prayer when you are in the valley of the shadow of death
Lord, I can’t bear this pain—take it away from me. Why did I need to lose my loved one? It’s not fair. My heart hurts, Lord. But no matter the pain I am in, I choose to trust You and expect solace from You. Help me in this difficult time, as You did in my good times, Lord. Thank You for hearing my prayer and once again showing me the testimonies of God.
2. Prayer when you are at rock bottom
Heavenly Father, I don’t know what to say. I reached rock bottom and don’t see any way out. No one is there to help me—everyone abandoned me. I don’t even have what it takes to take care of myself. Lord, I need you. Don’t leave me. Help me trust in You and believe I will get up again. I know You are higher than my highs or lows. Give me that peace in my heart. Thank You, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
3. Prayer in difficult times
Father, I don’t see the end of this dark tunnel. Are You here? Do You hear me? I just don’t know what to do anymore. It is too much. I give up. Holy Spirit, let me feel Your presence, so I get some strength to go on. All I need is a small start. Help me lift my eyes to the Rock who is higher than me and to expect a breakthrough in this difficult situation. Thank You. I am grateful. Amen.
4. Prayer to surrender the details of your life to God
Heavenly Father, I surrender my whole life, every tiny detail of it, to You. I dedicate my everything to You, whether good or bad, high or low. I know You take care of me, always. You will never leave me nor abandon me. I submit everything to You, take it, and use it for my good. Thank You, In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
5. Prayer to remind yourself of God’s testimony
Lord, I am anxious. Too many things are going on and it’s been a long time since I saw Your presence in my life. But even though I see nothing positive happening right now, I know deep down in my heart you are around. Holy Spirit, God’s Word says You would remind me of all things. Help me remember God’s testimonies. I need it. Thank You. Amen.
6. Prayer about God’s power and God’s greatness
Father, You are awesome! You are greater than anything! You created the Heavens and the Earth; You created me. The Earth and everything on it shout Your glory. Reveal Yourself in my life one more time. Manifest Your power and greatness in my life, and enable me to tell Your testimonies. I live in expectation of You. Amen.
7. Prayer to trust God for great things
Father, I am in trouble. I am not hiding it from You. I desperately need help. You have done it in the past. Do it again, Lord. Open Your heavenly treasures and let great things happen in my life. I need a miracle. Help me trust You more. Thank You. Amen.
8. Prayer to expect the green pastures
Lord, my life is dry. Apart from bad things, nothing is happening. Let me once again live in Your abundant provision. Guide me into Your green pastures, so you can refresh and recharge me. I need a break, Lord. Show me the way. I will follow. I am expecting Your guidance, Holy Spirit. Don’t disappoint me. Thank You. Amen.
